Choquequirao Trek is an epic Andean adventure to Cusco’s second most important Inca city, known as the “Sister City of Machu Picchu.” Hike through traditional Andean villages, deep valleys, and glacial landscapes, explore impressive Inca terraces, and enjoy panoramic views of Choquequirao overlooking the Apurímac Valley a remote, crowd-free experience rich in history and culture.

DAY 1: CUSCO – CAPULIYOC – PLAYA ROSALINAS – SANTA ROSA
Your Choquequirao adventure starts early at 4:30 am with pickup from your hotel. Enjoy a scenic 4-hour drive to Capuliyoc (2,850 m / 9,407 ft) through stunning valleys and snow-capped peaks. After breakfast and meeting your horsemen, the trek begins with a descent to Playa Rosalinas (1,475 m / 4,840 ft), where lunch awaits with spectacular views of the Apurímac Canyon and Padriyoc Peak (5,571 m / 18,387 ft).
Continue with a 2-hour ascent to Santa Rosa (1,900 m / 6,234 ft), your first campsite. Hot drinks, snacks, and a ready campsite allow you to relax before dinner under the stars.

DAY 2: SANTA ROSA - MARANPATA - CHOQUEQUIRAO
Start your day at 6:00 am with a hot tea delivered to your tent. After breakfast, begin a 2-hour ascent to Maranpata (2,850 m / 9,350 ft), enjoying breathtaking Andean landscapes, diverse flora, and wildlife along the way.
After lunch, explore Choquequirao, the “Cradle of Gold,” with your expert guide. Discover palaces, temples, ritual fountains, agricultural terraces, the ceremonial Usnu, and llama-carved terraces while learning the rich history and significance of this hidden Inca city. Keep your eyes open for majestic Andean condors soaring above.
In the evening, camp at Choquequirao with tea, dinner, and a magical night under the stars—just like the Incas did centuries ago.

DAY 3: CHOQUEQUIRAO – PLAYA ROSALINAS – CHIQUISCA
Wake up at 6:00 am with a hot cup of tea from your guide. After breakfast, begin a 4-hour descent to the Apurímac River (1,550 m / 5,085 ft), a river once revered as a sacred deity by the Incas.
Stop for lunch and rest, then continue with a 1.5-hour ascent to Chiquisca (1,990 m / 6,528 ft). Your tents are ready, and you’ll enjoy tea time, dinner, and a night under the magical Andean sky.

DAY 4: CHIQUISCA – CAPULIYUC – SAYWITE – CUSCO
After breakfast, embark on the final stretch to Capuliyoc Pass, enjoying panoramic views of the Apurímac Canyon and surrounding Andean peaks. Say farewell to your trekking team and board private transport back to Cachora (2,850 m / 9,407 ft) for a well-deserved lunch.
Next, visit the fascinating Saywite Archaeological Site, home to a massive carved monolith representing an Inca water map and agricultural terraces. Explore and learn about this sacred site before returning by private vehicle to Cusco, arriving around 6:00 pm.

- Original passport (it has to be the same you have used for booking your trek)
- Good daypack (the smaller, the better)
- Water storage: 2-3L, please bring reusable, not disposable, bottles
- Comfortable hiking boots with ankle support

WHAT TO PUT IN YOUR DUFFEL BAG
As a direct local tour operator, we provide each traveler with a duffel bag during your pre-trek briefing. this bag will be carried by an extra pack horse included in your tour, with a weight allowance of up to 7 kg / 15 lbs. this includes your sleeping bag (approx. 2.5 kg), sleeping pad (approx. 1 kg), and extra clothing.
according to peruvian law, no duffel bag may exceed 7 kg (15 lbs). this regulation exists to protect the well-being of our pack horses and ensure responsible trekking practices. all bags will be weighed prior to departure.
if you require more than the 7 kg limit, you will need to carry the additional weight in your personal daypack. in practical terms, once we account for your sleeping bag and pad, you’ll have about 4 kg / 9 lbs available for personal gear.

WHAT TO PUT IN YOUR BACKPACK
We highly recommend bringing a small daypack (30–40 liters) to carry your daily essentials. the rest of your belongings will be transported in your duffel bag and available at camp.
water: please bring enough water for the first morning. from the first lunch stop onward, we will provide you with freshly boiled and cooled water at every meal. don’t forget your refillable canteen or water bottle.
