EXPERIENCE CUSCO’S BEST CITY TOUR QORICANCHA, SACSAYHUAMAN & SACRED INCA SITES
Qoricancha – Cusco’s Most Sacred Inca Site.
Visit Qoricancha (Golden Courtyard), the main temple of the Inca Empire in Cusco, Peru, dedicated to the worship of the Sun. Its walls were once covered in gold, showing the Incas’ reverence for their gods.
Qoricancha also served as an astronomical observatory, and despite the Spanish building the Convent of Santo Domingo over it, visitors can admire the remarkable Inca stonework that has lasted centuries.
Today, it is one of Cusco’s most iconic landmarks, blending Inca heritage and colonial history.
Saqsayhuaman – The Majestic Inca Fortress in Cusco.
Saqsayhuaman, meaning “satisfied falcon” in Quechua, is one of the most impressive examples of Inca architecture. Its massive stone walls, with blocks weighing up to 128 tons, highlight the Incas’ extraordinary engineering skills.
Originally a ceremonial site and possibly a strategic fortress, Saqsayhuaman forms the head of Cusco, a city designed in the shape of a puma. Today, it is a cultural landmark, hosting the Inti Raymi Festival every June 24th, celebrating Inca traditions and the winter solstice.
Q’enqo – Inca Labyrinth and Ritual Center.
Q’enqo, meaning “Labyrinth,” is a remarkable Inca ceremonial site carved entirely into natural rock. Originally called Q’inqu, it features tunnels, passages, and underground channels that were used for sacred rituals.
Visitors can admire carvings of the condor, puma, and snake, representing the sky, earth, and underworld. Despite Spanish attempts to destroy it, Q’enqo’s stone structure has endured, making it a mysterious and revered site where travelers can connect with the spiritual essence of the Inca civilization.
Pukapukara – The Red Fortress
Pukapukara, meaning “The Red Fortress” in Quechua, is an important Inca archaeological site. Believed to serve both defensive and administrative purposes, it was also a key resting point for the chaskis, the Inca messengers who carried messages across the empire.
Its reddish stone walls, especially striking at sunset, continue to reflect the grandeur of Inca civilization and its strategic role in Cusco’s surroundings.
Tambomachay – The Temple of Water
Tambomachay, meaning “Resting Place” in Quechua, is a remarkable Inca water temple. Its finely carved aqueducts, canals, and stone fountains channel crystal-clear spring water, reflecting the harmony between nature and Inca engineering.
Visitors can experience the tranquility of this sacred site, which highlights the Incas’ reverence for one of their most sacred elements: water.

WHAT TO BRING FOR YOUR CUSCO CITY TOUR
When joining a Cusco City Tour, packing smartly will ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience. Here’s our recommended list:
- Backpack or Daypack – A small, lightweight bag to carry your essentials such as water, sunscreen, snacks, and a camera.
- Comfortable Walking Shoes – Cusco’s steep hills, cobblestone streets, and uneven paths make sturdy walking shoes essential.
- Lightweight, Layered Clothing – Days are usually warm and nights can be chilly. Bring breathable clothing that you can easily layer for changing conditions.
- Sunscreen & Hat – Protect yourself from Cusco’s strong high-altitude sun.
- Reusable Water Bottle – Staying hydrated is crucial, especially at high altitude.
- Snacks – Energy bars, fruit, or nuts are perfect for keeping your energy levels up throughout the day.
- Camera or Smartphone – Capture the stunning architecture, history, and vibrant streets of Cusco.
- Cash – While cards are widely accepted, it’s always handy to carry some cash for small purchases, souvenirs, or tips.
- Personal Medication – Bring any medicines you need, including remedies for altitude sickness if necessary.
- Rain Gear – A light rain jacket or umbrella is recommended, as Cusco can experience showers at any time of year.
Important Note: Cusco is located at high altitude (over 3,300 meters / 11,000 feet). Take it easy on your first day, drink plenty of water, and be mindful of any symptoms of altitude sickness.
